Medium plants with a leafspan of 4 - 8 inches. Nepenthes reinwardtiana is native to Sumatra, Malaysia and Borneo, and is generally considered to be an intermediate Nepenthes. Preferring a bit more warmth and humidity, our plants never-the-less seem well adjusted to our highland conditions. The traps are mostly green, but are showing much more red as they develop. This species is characterized, in mature plants, by two waxy spots on the upper portion of the back wall below the peristome giving the appearance of a pair of eyes peering out. Your Nepenthes reinwardtiana will be shipped bare-root, with damp Sphagnum moss to protect the roots.
Cultivation
N. reinwardtiana can be an easy Nepenthes to grow, but is perhaps more sensitive to low humidity, or infrquent watering than some. It prefers a well-drained media, similar to a highland, which usually includes a generous portion of long-fiber Sphagnum moss. Other soil ingredients may include peat moss, washed sand, horticultural charcoal, orchid bark and Osmunda fiber. Water daily, and never let it sit in water. Intermediate Nepenthes like to be kept humid. In general, night temperatures should drop to 60F or a bit lower nightly. They like warm days into the 80s.
