Small seed-grown plants with a leafspan of 2-4 inches. A few with small immature pitchers as you see in the image. Nepenthes dubia is a highland plant native to Sumatra, originating on Gunung Talakmau. This is a moderately fast grower, for a highlander. It is one of our favorite Nepenthes, definitely on our 'must-have' list. Plants are green with highlights of red. Pitchers are golden green also with red highlights. Similar to N. inermis, another highland native to Sumatra, this one also has a minimal peristome, and narrow, non-functional lid. Please take a look at the picture of an upper trap in our picture gallery. Your Nepenthes dubia will be shipped bare-root, with damp Sphagnum moss to protect the roots.
Cultivation
As is true of other highland Nepenthes species, N. dubia prefers a well-drained media, which usually includes a generous portion of long-fiber Sphagnum moss. Other soil ingredients may include peat moss, washed sand, horticultural charcoal, orchid bark and Osmunda fiber. Water as the surface of the soil just begins to get dry. Never let it sit in water. Highland Nepenthes require cool nights to grow well and form pitchers. They like to be kept humid. In general, night temperatures should drop below 60F nightly. Given cool nights, warm days well into the 80s or 90s are tolerated.
