Nepenthes ventricosa - Seed Grown $20.00

Small plants with a leafspan of 3-4 inches. These are seed grown, no two plants are exactly alike. These are from the same seed that we have sold for a couple of years, the seed parent is N. ventricosa black peristome, and the male is a N. ventricosa typical. The image is of the male parent plant growing in a hanging 6 inch pot.

Frequently with narrow pinched waist, forming the familiar hourglass shape, N. ventricosa originates in the Phillipines. One of the easiest Nepenthes to grow, ventricosa makes a great starter plant. It prefers warm days and cool nights, but is more forgiving than other species. Shipped bare root. Roots will be wrapped in moist sphagnum for protection.

Cultivation

As with other highland Nepenthes species, it prefers a well-drained media, which usually includes a generous portion of long-fiber Sphagnum moss. Other soil ingredients may include peat moss, washed sand, horticultural charcoal, orchid bark and Osmunda fiber. Water as the surface of the soil just begins to get dry. Never let it sit in water. Highland Nepenthes require cool nights to grow well and form pitchers. In general, night temperatures should drop below 60F nightly. Given cool nights, warm days well into the 80s or 90s are tolerated. They do best when kept humid.
