Small plants with a leafspan of 2-3 inches. Most with small immature pitchers. Nepenthes eymae is a highland plant native to Sulawesi. This is reported to be a slow grower, but our established plants have been moderately fast. This species is exceptionally attractive, with the lower pitchers richly colored with dark purple to nearly black wide peristomes. They have a characteristic spur beneath the lid. The upper pitchers are very different than the lower, being uniquely funnel shaped. Be sure to take a look at the picture of a large specimen of N. eymae in our picture gallery. Your Nepenthes eymae will be shipped bare-root, with damp Sphagnum moss to protect the roots.
Cultivation
As is true of other highland Nepenthes species, N. eymae prefers a well-drained media, which usually includes a generous portion of long-fiber Sphagnum moss. Other soil ingredients may include peat moss, washed sand, horticultural charcoal, orchid bark and Osmunda fiber. Water as the surface of the soil just begins to get dry. Never let it sit in water. Highland Nepenthes require cool nights to grow well and form pitchers. They like to be kept humid. In general, night temperatures should drop below 60F nightly. Given cool nights, warm days well into the 80s or 90s are tolerated.
